Abstract:

Given a map, the topology of its inverse image may reveal useful information in a handy form. This has been particularly true for visualization -- by analyzing the topology, the configuration of singularities in a field can be "seen" effectively. In the talk, the speaker will introduce a recent collaboration with mathematicians, which employs visualization as an aide for evaluating some topological equivalence of bounded fields. He would like to discuss also how mathematics and data science may collaborate to aide applications while fulfilling their mission as academists. This dilemma is an actual challenge for collaboration-oriented institutes such as the Pan-Omics Data-Driven Innovation Research Center (Kyushu Univ) and Zuse Institute Berlin (Germany).
