Division of Strategic Liaison
The Division of Strategic Liaison will establish an optimal structure to meet the rapidly growing needs of society, industry, and academic fields within and outside the university, while taking into account the particularities of the field of mathematics, which will inevitably need to be strengthened as the academic infrastructure of the Institute of Mathematics for Industry (IMI) is enhanced across the entire field of industrial mathematics. Specifically, we will carry out the following three missions: (1) strengthening the functions for promoting and supporting collaborative research, (2) operating the Mathematics for Industry Platform, and (3) pursuing collaborative research in a practical manner. In (1), we will value intellectual assets, establish a framework for reinvestment in academia, manage intellectual property, matchmaking for joint research, research-based internships, and the formation of cross-disciplinary research teams, and formulate medium- to long-term research strategies in cooperation with the government. In (2), we will utilize the resources of the Joint Use Research Center to build a network among mathematics research institutions nationwide and establish a system in which the entire mathematics community can respond to the needs of society, industry, and various scientific fields with a one-stop service. In (3), we will assign full-time faculty members dedicated to collaborative research and actively accept technical consultation and matching from companies, etc., while establishing a system that enables us to continue collaborative research responsibly even when fixed-term projects with companies continue.
