Kyushu University Institute of Mathematics for Industry

Certificate of Appreciation to Dr. Anderssen and Prof. Broadbridge

Kyushu University awarded Certificate of Appreciation to Dr. Robert Anderssen (CSIRO, Australia) and Prof. Philip Broadbridge (Adjunct Professor of IMI / Professor Emeritus of La Trobe University, Australia) on May 13th.

Dr. Anderssen made a significant contribution to the management of the international activities of IMI as a member of International Advisory Board since its foundation. He led the inauguration of Asia Pacific Consortium of Mathematics for Industry (APCMfI) in 2016, which serves as the basic framework of the international activities of IMI. He also established an award for the young researchers with his private money at Forum “Math-for-Industry” (FMfI). Moreover, at every occasion of FMfI, he persuaded the students of the Graduate School of Mathematics of the importance and necessity of the presentations and discussions in English and gave precise and valuable advice for their presentations. In this way, Dr. Anderssen significantly contributed to the education of the students of the Graduate School of Mathematics.

Professor Broadridge made a significant contribution to the inauguration of the IMI Australia Branch at La Trobe University in 2015. He made a great effort as a person in charge of La Trobe University to the plan without precedent to organize the joint employments of the regular faculty members in Australia through the international call for positions. Moreover, after the foundation of IMI Australia Branch, he played a role of the mediator between the industrial and applied mathematics communities of Japan and Australia as a member of IMI International Advisory Board and an adjunct professor of IMI.

We congratulate Dr. Anderssen and Prof. Broadbridge, as well as express our sincere gratitude to their great contributions.
