Report on ANZIAM 2023 Dispatch

The annual meeting of the Australian and New Zealand Society for Applied Mathematics, ANZIAM2023, was held in Cairns, Australia, from Feb. 6 to 9. 3 faculty members from IMI and 2 students from the Graduate School of Mathematics attended. The conference is a forum for young and experienced researchers in various fields of applied mathematics, especially those motivated by real-world problems, and the discussions during the lectures and frequent breaks (important!) are very lively. During the conference dinner, there was an award ceremony for the “Best Presentation Award” for students. The student lecture of the year is eligible for this award, and as an honor awarded by the entire conference, the participating students are said to make a lot of study in both research and presentation and take on the challenge of the annual conference.

Perhaps because of this, the content of their research and presentations were of a very high level (to be honest, many of them I recognized as students after their lectures). We Japanese students also presented our research results, and we are proud that we were able to play a role in international research exchange.
