The IMI Colloquium in June
Title : Financial Network and Systemic Risk, Mathematical Study of the Chain Reaction from the Part to the Whole
Speaker : Mr. Kenji NISHIGUCHI (The Japan Research Institute, Limited)
Place : IMI Auditorium (W1-D-413) (4F, West Zone 1, Kyushu University)

The colloquium entitled “Financial Network and Systemic Risk, Mathematical Study of the Chain Reaction from the Part to the Whole” by Mr. Kenji Nishiguchi (The Japan Research Institute, Limited) was held in June 13th. The talk started with transition of Nishiguchi’s activities including his background as a mathematician, and he talked about the role and importance of mathematics in the field of finance. In particular, he and his collaborators developed the concept of “systemic risk” describing the risk stemming from very complicated financial transaction network, and provided mathematical characterizations of recent financial crises. Their works give the potential of collaborative research and developments among mathematics and finance.

Attendance: Staff 15, Students 20
