Applied Mathematics
The division of Applied Mathematics develops mathematical methods to refine existing mathematical techniques and searches out theories that can be broadly applied so as to demonstrate the universality of mathematics. It works, in particular, to promote and enhance collaborative research with society (industry) and to promote the creation and research of strategic research themes based on the needs of society. Furthermore, by promoting long-term internships for graduate-school students involved in mathematical research and by managing personnel exchanges, this department seeks to uncover new research themes lurking in industrial technologies and to formalize those problems. It will also provide technical consultation on mathematical problems (that are as yet not formalized) from other fields both inside and outside Kyushu University, and will investigate the possibilities of joint and merged research and plant the seeds of such research where viable.
